CCO Attends Farmer Direct Co-Op Annual Meeting

Clear Creek Organics were pleased to be part of the Farmer Direct Coop annual meeting on Nov. 17. in Regina. Jason Freeman, general manager addressed the members of the coop and outlined the market potential for organic grains for 2012, as well as addressed the other service available to present and potential members. Jason and his staff also addressed the protocols on sampling grains and the importance of keeping the Coop updated as to the producers' inventory.

Gene Kessler, from CCO talked about the importance of producers that have livestock on organic farms, to ensure they are certified for 2012. He also demonstrated that the fluctuations in the conventional market place has a tremendous impact on the producer's bottom line if by chance the choose the wrong time to market their production. By certifying their calves and retaining ownership until finished allows them to predict their return as well as share if the profit of their sales. Markets for organic meat continue to grow and can only be met by increasing the inventory of organic livestock.

He also indicated that market not only continues to grow for organic beef but for other species as well, including poultry. Organic eggs are also needed in the local market place.
