Unfortunately, there are some skeptics that disagree when Organic food is presented as a “healthier alternative”. This is because it has been theorized that the production processes of conventional meat does not have any ill effects towards the health of humans. Don’t be alarmed but the fact of the matter is that Organic Beef does have many benefits to your health as well as consideration towards the cattle and the earth we farm on. Grocery stores often sell bulk produce shipped from far off locations and treated with several non-organic ingredients to ensure the perception of freshness.
If you have ever owned a garden then you know that there is a difference between your carrots and those purchased at the store. There is no difference between that and the comparison between Organic Beef and Conventional Beef. By maintaining a diet of Organic grains, no animal by products or growth hormones, fresh water, and a stress free ability to roam in an open pasture, Organic cattle simply tastes better and maintains fresher nutrients. It is also hard to debate that Organic Beef doesn’t help protect everyone from exposure to potential disease and toxins used to speed up the process of growth in animals and plants.
On a regular basis, conventional farmers implant growth hormones in the food and even directly into the cows in order to raise them faster and ship them out sooner. Our society is concerned that these growth hormones can be linked to serious issues such as the increase of allergies and premature physical development in youths. The common practice of feeding conventional cattle with animal byproducts and injecting antibiotics when the cattle is sick are also avoided by Organic farmers. Some consider it morally questionable to feed a cow rendered animal byproducts but more importantly, this practice has been linked to dangerous outbreaks such as BSE or Mad Cow Disease. Lastly, Organic cattle roam large pastures and only eat organic grains.
“Fatty grains” can be used by conventional beef farmers to add weight to cows in order to get more meat. The concern is that the meat has more fat, calories and cholesterol in it whereas Organic beef is leaner and has less fat in general. It is not our intent to attack conventional beef and the farmers that choose to raise this cattle but it is important to understand what the term “Organic” means to us. Simply put, we believe that our beef is good for you and represents our commitment to the land, the animals and the community that we serve.
